Why Am I Running for Chief...

...it's really not that complicated. The answer is: Change.

Change is good, and its healthy - but not simply for the sake of change. My interests in Change are more grounded in a philosophy of the natural evolution of people, processes and priorities. As our community grows, becomes more sophisticated, and understands the opportunities before it...the 'old' way of doing business, governing and leading just simply will not cut it. I believe a youthful and more sophisticated leadership must emerge and assume responsibility.

In the very-far-past our leadership were sent off and trained in particular areas of expertise and priority (based on community needs), nurtured and exposed to the challenges and responsibilities of leadership, and then provided ever increasing tasks of leadership and responsibilities for the community. In the past old leaders welcomed and encouraged young leaders to rise up and lead the community.

In our present, our youth (future leaders) are sent off to become doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, electricians, plumbers, musicians and much, much more. However, our talented and gifted often go work for others and rarely come home to work in and support the community. I believe, we must embrace our expertly trained, proven and experienced community members as "OUR" leadership, capable of leading our community successfully and expeditiously in to the future.

Specifically, I believe these 4 priorities are the much needed foundation for our Community:

-Treaty Resolution and Full Implementation of Self Government
-New Funding Priorities for Education, Housing, and Community
-Responsible and Transparent Economic Development
-Proper Community Consultation and Communication

Tell me what you think about this Blog...get engaged in a discussion about the future of your community, people, and family.

In my next blog...a discussion of the "real" economic opportunities over the next 4 years...

Respectfully,
Lawrence Lewis
